Overview:
W+ Technologies Ltd is a privately funded company founded in 2004, with its core technology developed in anticipation of Wireless Internet’s impact on China’s 400 million mobile subscribers and 100 million Internet users. With 3G and mobile internet convergence, this new media will revolutionize how people communicate and how enterprises conduct their day-to-day business.
The mJoy mobile service platform, developed by W+, is the first application in the world that enables ordinary users to design and create mobile interactive content easily without any programming effort, not to mention an ease to share and distribute personalized services and content to the vast user community. Main applications of the mJoy platform include news media, games, blogs, mobile marketing, social network applications and many other mobile interactive services.
W+ currently has about 70 staffs; many of them are Chinese returnees from western countries. W+ hosts Guangzhou Middleware Research Centre (http://www.middleware.com.cn) which is a strategic innovation platform founded by the Chinese government for its software industry. And we are also a part of the European Commission strategic research program (IST) with many leading European academics and Industry players. With its strong R&D base, we take pride in being among one of the most innovative companies in this region.
Market Need:
With the ever increasing processing power of mobile handsets, and wireless internet infrastructure maturing, particularly with the deployment of 3G in China, there is a great anticipation for an explosive growth potential in the mobile Internet services market in China. This market potential is yet to be fully realized with several critical problems and gaps needing to be resolved which are: 1) Designing and developing mobile interactive applications (e.g. games) is currently difficult, requiring professional software developers. This usually also translates to high level of complexity and expense to write and maintain these software programs 2)A dampening of interest from end users as they are only able to passively download a small selection of applications or contents from an Operator’s product offering which needless to say is currently limited in scope.
Thus by resolving the above-said problems, our business aims to create a massive, user driven community in the mobile services and entertainment sphere. Such communities where users are able to create and share their own personalized content easily and freely, thus this will ultimately impel, permeate, propagate and perpetrate a cyclical growth. These communities will also have three key unique features: 1)Active, it is an active and dynamic community driven by massive users 2)Trusted, as it establishes a trusted network between friends for fun of service creation and sharing 3)Personalized, it empowers enterprises to deliver highly personalized , targeted services upon user’s requests anywhere, anytime.
After two years of operations our products are maturing and the mJoy platform has been released to the public since November, 2005. Some of mJoy’s key customers include Guangzhou Daily (China largest news media group), Nan Fan News Media Group (China second largest news media group), Yan Cheng News Media Group with many other news and media groups also adopting our technology in order to deliver a new generation of mobile interactive media and services to their customers. We are also working closely with leading telecom operators to market our products and services. In the meantime, W+ has also developed solid partnerships with industry-standard bodies, academia and industry-leading solutions providers worldwide (eg.W3C, ETSI, ObjectWeb, INRIA, ZTE, etc) in order to address demands of the growing market.
